Summer camp in Golovin

Summer in Golovin looked a little different this year as children gathered for Summercise, a traveling wellness program from Norton Sound Health Corporation that combines physical activity, nutrition and fun. Over two days, kids played volleyball, tag and other games, enjoyed healthy snacks, and even joined a community-wide basketball tournament.

The program helps children build healthy habits through hands-on activities that make learning enjoyable. “It’s really just an application of fun, perhaps learning disguised,” said Summercise intern Anna McPherson. From making peanut butter-banana “sushi” to themed nutrition lessons, each activity encouraged movement, teamwork and healthy choices.

For 9-year-old Elise, the experience was one to remember. “I had a lot of fun,” she said, adding that her favorite part was “probably getting a prize or playing games.”
