From the climate perspective, Autumn 2025 in Nome looked pretty normal. The September through November, average temperature of 31.4 degrees was within one degree of average, total precipitation 5.04 inches was 95% of the 1991 to 2020, average.
Now, snowfall was certainly on the low side, but we've had less in recent years. In autumn 2012 there was less than three inches of snow, and Autumn 2021 had less than one inch of snow. Now, sea ice tried to form in front of town in the middle of November, but that quickly melted away due to the milder and stormy weather in the days before Thanksgiving, and it was really only the last couple of days of November when the ice formed to stay.
Much more impactful, of course, were the storms of October, the storm on October 8 brought the highest ocean water level in Nome since Merbok. With some minor flooding in town and washouts on parts of the road between Safety and Solomon.
