Starting with tonight at 7:00 the Nome Planning Commission is meeting at City Hall. A public hearing will be held over changes to zoning changes to Front Street. The rezoning seeks to “to promote redevelopment, encourage active commercial uses and building development, and contextually appropriate residential uses.”
Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. an informational meeting for parents and their children interested in participating in Battle of the Books is set to kick off over at the library.
Moving on to Wednesday, the Nome Arts Council is holding their annual meeting at the UAF NW Campus. There, the council will cover regular business as well as elect new board members.
Thursday night there will be a Strait Science on regional climate, and the tools you can use to dive deeper. Nancy Fresco from UAF’s International Arctic Research Center will lead the presentation on Zoom starting at 6:30 p.m.
Also starting Thursday is the annual Subway Showdown basketball tournament, right here at Nome-Beltz. Teams from Lumen Christi, Su-Valley, Kotzebue, and Unalakleet will be in town for the tournament that runs through Saturday night, including a skills competition Saturday morning.
If you want to help out with the tournament, please consider donating to the hospitality room. Fundraising extraordinaire Lena Danner has created a sign-up page.
