KNOM Community Calendar: Dec 9

We’ve got a big week in Nome as we barrel toward Christmas.

Tonight at 6:00 p.m. Nome Elementary School is hosting a “Family Fun Night” that’ll feature holiday themed activities.

Also tonight is a Nome Common Council meeting. We’re expecting a couple interesting items out of tonight's meeting, including the possible ratification of the Nome City Employees Association new collective bargaining agreement. We’re also expecting the council to sign off on a lease to Kawerak for the creation of a new recycling facility. We’ll have detailed reporting about each of those on our website Tuesday morning and as always, check out our livestream on our Facebook and YouTube pages.

On Tuesday Old St. Joe’s will host funeral services for Ann June Castel. That starts at 2:00 p.m. and a potluck will follow at King Island Hall. From all of us at KNOM, we extend our condolences to the family.

Tuesday night the Nome Public Schools Board of Education will host their monthly meeting at Nome Elementary School. Notably missing from the meeting’s agenda is an update on contract negotiations with the teacher’s union. That starts at 5:30 p.m.

Wednesday night groups as young as Kindergartners will take the stage at Nome Elementary School for the Nome-Beltz Winter Concert & Dessert Fundraiser. Here’s a snippet of the Nome-Beltz High School Band performing “Rockin’ St. Nick.”

Thursday we’ve got a Serum Run planning meeting thats set to begin on Zoom at noon. There will also be a Strait Science on Bering Strait ship traffic, that starts at 6:30 p.m. also on Zoom.

Friday night is day one of the Mid-December Bazaar hosted by XYZ Senior Center. It’ll be open Friday from 6-8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Finally, on Saturday the Nome Beltz Wrestling team will travel to Kotzebue for the Northern Conference Tourney.

As always, you can view and submit events anytime at knom.org/calendar. We’ll see you all next week.
