Neal Foster expected to secure reelection to Alaska House

Incumbent Neal Foster is on track to secure re-election to the Alaska State House of Representatives, winning against Tyler Ivanoff in a repeat of their 2022 race. Foster, a Democrat from Nome, will continue representing House District 39, which encompasses Nome and several rural communities in western Alaska.

From the Division of Election's unofficial results posted on election night, Foster has received just over 57.3% of the vote, while Ivanoff, running under the Alaskan Independence Party, garnered 42.7% of the vote.

Foster, who has held the District 39 seat since 2009, campaigned on protecting the Power Cost Equalization program, subsistence rights, and his power as a senior member of the house's finance committee.

Ivanoff, a teacher and resident of Shishmaref, named education, subsistence, and economic opportunities for rural communities as priorities in his campaign. During this year’s primary election, Ivanoff earned nearly 36% of the vote.

The final results are set to be certified by the Alaska Division of Elections in the coming weeks.
