The City of Nome is set to be the new owner of the historic White Alice Towers.
The twelve-acre site on Anvil Mountain houses communication structures built by the Air Force during the Cold War.
The Nome City Council passed the land purchase agreement at last night’s meeting. Public turnout was high, and many spoke to the significant role the White Alice Towers play in Nome’s tourism industry.
The agreement transfers two downtown lots from the city to the site’s current owner, Sitnasuak Native Corporation. The downtown lots have an estimated value of $100,000.
