Solving the problems of the future sounds like a task for high-ranking politicians or famous philosophers. But, in the early 1980s, it was done by a team of junior high and high school students from Gambell. The team competed in an international academic competition known as Future Problem Solving. Not only did they defy the odds and place higher than they ever thought they could, but they also learned a lot about themselves and the world around them.
“I really think that’s when we grew up,” said Carolyn Apangalook, one of the former team members. “A new chapter, a new beginning.”
