Governor Bill Walker has appointed three Western Alaska community members to two State boards.
Ronald Huffman of Nome has been reappointed to the “Public/Restricted” seat on the Alaska Veterans Advisory Council, which focuses on advocating for needs of Alaskan servicemen and women. Huffman is Program Director for the Community Education Department at Kawerak. He will begin his new three-year term on the Council starting November 10th.
Two individuals have been appointed to the National Park Monument Subsistence Resource Commissions. Victor Karmun of Kotzebue will serve again on the Cape Krusenstern seat, while Greta Schuerch of Kiana will serve on the Kobuk Valley seat.
Schuerch is the Corporate and Public Policy Liaison for NANA Regional Corporation. Karmun is a retired service member, who has worked as a Fish and Wildlife Native Liaison, as well as on the State Fish and Game Advisory Committee.
The Commissions provide suggestions with regards to subsistence users and development in national parks. Both Karmun and Schuerch started their terms on October 26th and will serve through November of 2018.
