If you require a gluten-free diet and have recently purchased pre-made chicken noodle soup at Hanson’s in Nome, you might want to double-check your soup packaging.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture issued a “health alert” for a certain batch of Signature Café Chicken Noodle Soup with White Meat Chicken. The soup was incorrectly labeled on the front as “gluten-free”– when in reality, the product does contain gluten in the wheat noodles. The Signature Café Chicken Noodle Soup could be harmful to those with a gluten allergy or sensitivity.
The Signature Café Chicken Noodle Soup with White Meat Chicken is sold at Hanson’s in Nome and at other Safeway and Albertsons stores throughout Alaska. It is unclear whether the mislabeled soup was even sold in Nome, but Hanson’s Night Manager Chris Muller confirmed that, as of Tuesday, there are no mislabeled chicken noodle soups on store shelves.
The mislabeled soup is from batch “EST 46381” with expiration dates of April 27th along with three dates in May: the 2nd, 8th and 21st. Besides the mislabeling, the U.S.D.A has not specified any other problems and the soup should be safe for consumers without a gluten issue.
