According to Iditarod’s official social media, Aliy Zirkle sustained significant impact that resulted in a concussion and orthopedic injuries to her upper torso. The Iditarod veteran and fan favorite is stable, has been released from the hospital and is currently resting in Anchorage with her family. Her dog team is in Rohn being cared for by volunteers. Aliy Zirkle was set to retire after this year’s race.
As the Iditarod mushers continue to advance, Ryan Redington is the first to reach Nikolai. He has yet to stay in a checkpoint, and it appears as if he is currently resting in Nikolai with a large number of other mushers who have also made it into the checkpoint. Everyone still in the race has made it into Rohn.
