Sounding Board: Alaska Native Corporations

Do Alaska Native corporations share enough information with you – the shareholder? This Thursday on Sounding Board (January 17, 2013 at 10am), we’re talking about Alaska Native corporations.

Massachusetts representative Ed Markey plans on introducing legislation that would require Alaska Native corporations (like Calista and The Bering Straits Native Corporation) to report financial statements to the Securities and Exchange Commission, whose mission is to regulate the US market. Markey said in a press release that Native corporations treat their shareholders as second-class citizens and that his legislation would protect them from financial abuses committed by the corporations.

  • Should Alaska Native corporations be more accountable with the government?
  • With their shareholders?
