Four-time Iditarod champion Martin Buser is no stranger to the Iditarod trail. He revolutionized the race years ago, introducing lean dogs bred to run faster times. And now, it’s the norm.
Buser knows what it takes to win the Iditarod. And he feels good about the possibilities this year for his team. Before the race start in Anchorage, he told KNOM’s Laureli Kinneen, “a lot of unprecedented circumstances have gone into this start.” While his son Rohn sits out the Iditarod this year, Martin Buser runs a team with the pick of the litter from their Happy Trails kennel. He feels confident about his team. He also drew starting position #2, the number he was hoping for. He says, “all the old timers remember the year when Susan Butcher pulled #2 out of the hat, and she led from wire to wire.”
Martin Buser is currently in first position in the 2013 Iditarod. He was the first musher into Rohn at 9:53 this morning.
