The change of the seasons is upon us, and the tundra is changing color. The last of the berry picking and seasonal canning is taking place. Hunting and fishing activities are winding down, and freezers are filling with cuts of fish and meat.
Last week, at least one bear was spotted in and around homes in a community outside of Nome. After a bear was spotted at the high school, we contacted the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. Letty Hughes of ADF&G spent time on the air instructing listeners on the safety issues involving bears and other wildlife.
We also got a call from Jerry Steiger of the National Weather Service office in Nome to coordinate new marine weather reports. We all work together to keep listeners safe and well informed. Our thanks to everyone helping us to care for the people of Western Alaska.
