This month and next, we’re bidding farewell to the volunteers who have completed their 2012-2013 service years at KNOM. As with every class of KNOM volunteers, their departures make for a bittersweet time; we’re sad to see our hardworking volunteers depart but know that they’ll continue to do excellent work in the future.
In a few weeks, we’ll be saying goodbye to Eva DeLappe (pictured above), who returns to Reno, Nevada after a year of hard work as KNOM’s public affairs director. Eva’s been an instrumental part of our news team: writing and producing long-form news stories on the events and people affecting the communities of Western Alaska. For KNOM’s enduringly beloved show Elder Voices, Eva has interviewed many of our region’s most respected elders and brought their life stories into the homes of thousands of our listeners.
At the end of this month, we’ll say goodbye, also, to news reporter Margaret DeMaioribus, who hails from eastern Pennsylvania. Margaret’s commitment to community service has been a boon to our community, both within KNOM’s studio walls and throughout Western Alaska. As a reporter, Margaret has worked hard to bring to our listeners the latest news topics (some of which are written on the white board behind her); with thorough dedication, she has worked the news “beat” in rural Alaska. At Nome’s St. Joseph Catholic Church, Margaret has also served as a volunteer cantor (song leader) and teacher for religious education classes.
We offer our fond farewell, heartfelt thanks, and best wishes to Eva and Margaret – and we thank you for making their crucially-needed work possible.
