Pat Moon Scratches

Rookie musher Pat Moon scratched from Iditarod 38 on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Iditarod headquarters, Moon crashed his sled in the Dalzell Gorge, a difficult and “infamous” section of trail between the Rainy Pass and Rohn checkpoints. He briefly lost consciousness following the crash but was aided by fellow musher Sam Deltour, who checked on Moon and his team and was there to see Moon regain consciousness.

Both Pat Moon and his team are reported to be “in good condition.” According to the Anchorage Daily News, Moon was expected to have been released by Tuesday night from Anchorage’s Providence Medical Center.

Pat Moon was the first rookie to scratch from Iditarod 38; as of late Tuesday night, 66 mushers remain in the race.
