For nearly 45 years, Covenant Bible Camp has welcomed children from across Alaska to its riverside campus outside Unalakleet for a week of faith, fellowship, and outdoor adventure. Organized by the Alaska Conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church, the camp gives youth an opportunity to grow spiritually through Bible study, worship, and outdoor activities while unplugging from everyday distractions. With no cell service at camp, many campers discover a renewed sense of connection.
“I think it brings us more into the heart of God’s creation, and just into His presence,” Bible Camp Executive Director Jeff Keyser said. “Almost every year by day three, kids have kind of detoxed from their devices and their distractions. The trust has been built there, they’ve let go of the things they’ve been worried about.”
The camp began near Elim before moving to its current location outside Unalakleet in the early 1980s, where campers first stayed in surplus canvas tents before cabins were built. Today, the site includes full cabins and can host nearly 100 campers at a time, with hopes of expanding in the future.
