Alaska State Troopers begin filming new TV show in western Alaska

Alaska State Troopers are returning to TV with a new series set to debut in 2026. The show is a sequel to a series aired by National Geographic between 2009 and 2015.

Film crews have fanned out across the state, with sightings reported in the Matanuska-Susitna Valley and Fairbanks areas. Troopers from the C Detachment have been spotted locally in Stebbins and Unalakleet with a single photographer in tow.

Alaska Department of Public Safety spokesman Austin McDaniel confirmed in an email that filming was underway “in multiple locations around the state over the next few months” but did not confirm specific locations.

McDaniel said in the decade since the original series ended, the department has fielded “dozens” of requests to bring the show back.

“Each request is thoroughly evaluated to determine if the production effort will highlight the tenacity and courage of the Alaska State Troopers while promoting transparency and minimally impacting our operations,” McDaniel said. “Many do not meet the high standards that we set.”

Beyond documenting the work of the troopers, McDaniel said the department also views the show as a recruiting tool. He said the department saw an uptick in job applications following the debut of the original series.

“Ultimately, this new series is a strategic partnership we hope will build understanding, reinforce public trust, and highlight the vital role that troopers have in every corner of our great state,” McDaniel said.

The show is set to air next year. The TV network or streaming platform it will debut on has not yet been announced.
