Bering Air plane resumes flying following bird strike in Stebbins

A flock of birds struck a Bering Air flight in Stebbins Friday. No injuries were reported.

The Beechcraft King Air was decelerating at Stebbins Airport when birds adjacent to the runway suddenly flew into the path of the plane. Bering Air Chief Pilot, Fen Kineen, confirmed “several” birds struck an unspecified part of the plane.

Bering Air sent a crew of mechanics to inspect the plane before clearing it to resume flying. Kineen said the insides of both engines were inspected and no damage was found.

The aircraft that ferried the Bering Air mechanics to Stebbins was used to carry the displaced passengers to their final destinations. The King Air eventually flew back to Nome, where it was cleaned and prepared to return to service.
