Dear Friend…(September 2025)

As September arrives in Western Alaska, the signs of seasonal change whisper all around us – the golden tundra grasses, the earlier sunsets, the quiet preparation of both people and animals for the colder months ahead. In the Church’s liturgical year, we are also moving through the final stretch of Ordinary Time in Year C, walking with Luke’s Gospel as Jesus steadily journeys toward Jerusalem. These September readings invite us to reflect on humility, discipleship, and the cost of following Christ – not as heavy burdens, but as deep calls to freedom and authenticity.

One Sunday this month, we hear Jesus tell us, “Whoever does not carry their own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple” (Luke 14:27). It’s a challenging message – but not without hope. In this season of harvest and transition, maybe we’re being asked to examine what we’re carrying and what we might need to set down. Jesus doesn’t call us to follow with perfection, but with honesty. And sometimes, discipleship simply looks like this: showing up for each other, forgiving when it’s hard, and keeping the faith in the quiet places of our lives.

At KNOM, we are honored to walk with you through the quiet and important moments of life. We share trusted news to keep you informed, weather updates to help keep you safe, and Gospel reflections to feed your spirit. As the seasons change and time moves on, please remember: you are not alone. We are connected through faith, through shared stories, through the cross we carry, and through the light we all carry together. We would love to hear from you! You can email us at belong@knom.org or call 907-868-1200. You are always in our prayers.
