Crowley Fuels to paint Nome-Beltz Nanook logo on tank farm

Listen to this story:

Crowley Fuels Alaska's tank farm near Nome is set for a makeover, with a new Nome-Beltz Nanook logo set to be painted on the side of a giant fuel tank.

The company recently asked Nome Public Schools if it could use the “Fighting Nanook” bear logo on a freshly-repainted tank.

The district’s Superintendent, Jamie Burgess, brought it to the board’s attention at an August meeting. She said the mural would be mutually beneficial, but that it still needed to be greenlit by the board.

“I think it's great, nice advertisement, nice addition to our community, but because it is use of our school and our school logos by an outside entity, it felt most comfortable that the board would approve that usage,” Burgess said.

The Board passed the motion unanimously. The Northwest Arctic Borough School District in Kotzebue and the Lower Kuskokwim School District in Bethel have also authorized Crowley to use their logos on local fuel tanks.
