In Nome, there are narrow paths that wind between buildings and across the tundra – quiet reminders of Jesus’s words in one of August’s Gospel readings about the narrow gate.
I don’t think Jesus meant to frighten us or to make holiness feel impossible. Maybe He was gently reminding us that love often asks us to slow down, let go of pride and self-importance, and walk thoughtfully, paying attention to what truly matters.
Then Jesus says something surprising: “The last will be first, and the first will be last.” God looks and measures our lives in a different way than the world does. To Him, quiet kindness, small sacrifices, and helping others matter more than being famous or getting attention.
These small choices may seem little, but step by step, they change us and lead us closer to God – through that narrow gate where the last become first.
At KNOM Radio Mission, each day is a chance to follow the narrow path of kindness and service.
