Snow-Ella

At nearly 20 feet tall, Snow Ella is an impressive sight. This “lady” snowman, adorned with pink form mittens, headband, heart shaped buttons and long eyelashes, is capturing attention and drawing quite a crowd in Anchorage.

Her foam tongue playfully sticks out from a smiling mouth, adding a touch of whimsy and mischief to her charming appearance.

It took a crew of 3 to 5 people two months and about 12 tons of donated snow to build the giant snow lady. They used a telephone pole to stabilize the structure and about 80 pallets wrapped with heavy-duty straps to hold the snow securely as they packed it down. After freezing Ella in place with water overnight, the workers carefully removed the pallets layer by layer, shaping and perfecting her form as they worked.

Snow Ella was inspired by a 3-year-old girl who asked her father why there weren’t any snow girls. Her curiosity sparked the idea, leading to the creation of this towering snow girl.
