Shaktoolik resident charged with cyberstalking, sexual abuse involving minors

A Shaktoolik resident has been charged with cyberstalking and sexually exploiting minors in a federal indictment handed down by a grand jury in Alaska.

According to court documents, 22-year-old Matthew Jackson is accused of cyberstalking one adult and two minors between December 2021 and July 2023 with the intent to harass and cause substantial emotional distress. Prosecutors allege Jackson’s actions also included conduct constituting sexual abuse.

During the same period, Jackson allegedly sexually exploited three minors, two of whom were among his cyberstalking victims, to produce child sexual abuse material.

The indicment also alleges that Jackson knowingly possessed materials containing child sexual abuse.

Jackson was arrested on November 26 and faces three counts of cyberstalking with an enhanced penalty allegation, three counts of sexual exploitation of a child for producing child pornography, and one count of possession of child pornography.

He is scheduled for an initial court appearance on December 3 before U.S. Magistrate Judge Scott A. Oravec in Anchorage. If convicted, Jackson faces a prison sentence ranging from 15 years to life.

Sentencing will be determined by a federal district court judge following U.S. Sentencing Guidelines. The FBI, with assistance from the Alaska State Troopers, continues to investigate the case.

Authorities urge anyone with information about Jackson or potential victims to contact the FBI Anchorage Field Office at (907) 276-4441 or submit a tip anonymously at tips.fbi.gov.
