With just 100 days until the ceremonial start of the 2025 Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race, 30 mushers have officially signed up to tackle the approximately 1,000-mile trek from Anchorage to Nome.
Among the registered competitors are seasoned veterans, rising stars, and several rookies.
Headlining the list are notable veterans Nicolas Petit, Travis Beals, Jessie Holmes, and 2023’s champion Ryan Redington. Missing from the field is last year’s winner, six-time Iditarod champion Dallas Seavey.
A group of 13 rookies are set to join the race. Sydnie Bahl of Wasilla and Daniel Klein from Wisconsin are among the first-time competitors. Other rookies, such as Keaton Loebrich of Michigan and Samantha LaLonde of Farmington Hills, Michigan, bring an out-of-state presence to the typically Alaska-dominated field.
Rookies Ebbe Pedersen of Norway and Michelle Phillips from Canada’s Yukon Territory are also expected to compete.
The 2025 Iditarod will begin with the ceremonial start in Anchorage on March 1, 2025, followed by the restart in Willow where mushers will begin their journey toward Nome. For the last five years, that journey has taken between seven and 10 days.
Registration fees for the race are set to double on December 2, from $4,000 to $8,000.
