In many Christian cultures, November is traditionally dedicated to meditating on death, especially with the observance of All Souls’ Day on November 2nd. All Saints’ Day on November 1st and the Solemnity of Christ the King at the end of the month call us to contemplate the heavenly kingdom where we hope to spend eternity when our earthly life is done.
The great St. Benedict counseled his monks “to keep death daily before their eyes.” Benedict believed that “Death is a wise advisor.”
How can death advise us? Remembering our death can lead to a greater appreciation for the gift of life and how every single day is immeasurably precious simply because our days are limited. Unlike our checking account balance, our time balance on Earth is unknown.
Our mortality reminds us to forgive and not to sweat the small stuff. KNOM recognizes how important it is to leave behind a legacy of kindness, love, and faith. As we reflect on the fleeting nature of life, we want to acknowledge your support, prayers and monetary gifts to keep inspiration, hope and compassion on the air in the remote areas of Western Alaska. God bless you and your dear ones, both those who are still alive and the deceased.
