Nome Joint Utility System (NJUS) has announced a planned power outage for the entire Nome power grid on Thursday, Oct. 10. The outage is set to take place between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m.
The temporary power disruption is necessary to ensure safety as work crews connect the new Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) to the power plant’s operations. The project was awarded $2 million in funding from the Alaska Energy Authority's Renewable Energy Fund in 2022.
NJUS said in a release that restoring power will be a priority, and electricity will return as quickly and safely as possible.
Residents with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact NJUS at (907) 443-6587 Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or (907) 443-6321 for assistance outside office hours.
