A Letter From the GM

Dear Friends,

As we begin a new fiscal year, it is a simultaneously exciting and scary time for KNOM. We have launched new projects which creates content more relevant to our listeners, including comprehensive local journalism, separate AM/FM signals, and online streaming. We are also fully staffed, which is nearly unheard of in Nome. These are all huge accomplishments! It goes to show the KNOM staff’s dedication to the station, our listeners, our mission, and you – our donors.

Unfortunately, with full staffing, funding has become a concern. Thanks to your generous support, we have purchased a new custom door for the AM site (look for an update soon!) and have received a significant amount of the funding we need to upgrade our heating systems. However, we still need help with our day-to-day expenses. Our monthly winter utility bills alone are more than some people make in an entire year.

I would like to ask you to consider a small increase of $2 in your monthly donation to help us support our staff and advance our projects that keep KNOM relevant and on the air. To put this into perspective, if every reader of the Nome Static donated an additional, or began donating, $2 per month, it would cover our monthly utilities.

This is hard for me to ask. Growing up in Nome, I always learned to make do with what I had on hand, because that is how life is in rural Alaska. The reality, however, is that KNOM has a wonderful and dedicated staff who deserve basics such as health insurance and a wage sufficient to support themselves and their families. I owe it to them to ask you to help me continue providing these essentials.
Many blessings to you and your loved ones,

Miranda
KNOM General Manager
