Ingredients:
- 4 cups vinegar
- 2 cups water – give or take
- ½ cup pickling spice – to your liking
- 1 ½ tablespoons sugar
- Lemon
- Sliced onions (white or red)
- 2 pound-ish herring or salmon – fileted and sliced into small jar sized pieces.
Directions:
- Boil vinegar, water, pickling spices, and sugar. Cool.
- Layer soaked herring/salmon in a glass jar with the sliced lemon and onion.
- Divide the spices between your containers if you are using more than one.
- Pour the cooled pickling liquid over the layers and seal the jars.
- Wait at least a day before eating. Store in the fridge for up to 1 month.
