Federal Subsistence Council to Hold Public Meeting in Nome

The Federal Subsistence Regional Advisory Councils will be holding a series of public meetings across Alaska this fall to discuss proposed changes to subsistence fishing and shellfishing regulations for the 2025-2027 period.

The meetings, scheduled to take place between August and October 2024, are open to the public both in-person and via teleconference.

In Nome, the Seward Peninsula Subsistence Regional Advisory Council is scheduled to meet October 24-25. The council will convene to review subsistence issues specific to the region and make recommendations on regulatory changes. The meeting will also address other matters pertinent to the local community, including any emerging concerns about subsistence practices.

The Federal Subsistence Board will oversee the meetings. Residents of Nome and surrounding areas are urged to attend the upcoming meeting to voice their opinions and contribute to the discussions that impact subsistence users.

Further details, including teleconference information and specific meeting times, will be available on the Federal Subsistence Management Program’s website approximately two weeks before the meeting. Those interested can also request meeting materials by contacting the Office of Subsistence Management.
