A 30-year-old Emmonak man, Jonathan Stewart Andrews, has been charged with multiple offenses following a serious ATV collision on August 14, 2024. The incident left Andrews’ brother, Archie Andrews, critically injured.
According to court documents, the Alaska State Troopers were called to the scene of the collision at approximately 11:29 p.m. after receiving a report from another brother, Rick Andrews.
Rick stated that earlier in the evening, Jonathan “side swiped” Archie with an ATV, causing Archie to fall and lose a shoe. Rick said that he decided to separate his two brothers by driving Archie back to his home. Then, while traveling approximately 25 mph, Rick said Jonathan struck their ATV from behind.
The impact reportedly caused Archie to be thrown from the vehicle, rendering him unresponsive and leaving him in a pool of blood.
Archie was later transported to the Emmonak Clinic, where medical personnel suspected he had suffered a skull fracture. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently airlifted to a higher-level care facility.
The report indicated that Jonathan Andrews was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident. Upon arrival at the scene, Alaska State Trooper Medina noted his bloodshot eyes, the strong odor of alcohol, and unsteady demeanor. Jonathan declined to make any statements to the authorities or participate in a preliminary breath test.
Jonathan Andrews faces multiple charges, including assault in the first degree, a Class A felony, for recklessly causing serious physical injury to his brother Archie. He is also charged with assault in the third degree, a Class C felony, and driving under the influence, a Class A misdemeanor.
Jonathan Andrews’ has a history of similar offenses, with two prior convictions within the last decade for assault in the fourth degree.
Jonathan was arrested and is being held at the Emmonak Jail. The case is being prosecuted by the Alaska State District Attorney’s office.
