Fire on Steadman St. suspected to be set intentionally

The Nome Police Department (NPD) is seeking public assistance in identifying the cause of a fire that was set to a home on Tuesday (Nov. 7). There were no injuries to residents or firefighters according to Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Knowlton.

The fire was set around four in the morning on Steadman St. and is believed to be intentional according to a Facebook post from NPD.

Knowlton said a shed on the property was engulfed in flames upon arrival.

“The fire was starting to move to other exposures so we deployed lines, and got the fire knocked down.”

This is the second fire since the beginning of October (Oct. 1) that is believed to have been intentionally set. A fire on Tobuk Alley last month resulted in tens of thousands of dollars worth of damages to the property.

NPD is asking for those with information on the Nov. 7 fire to call 907-443-5262 and ask for Officer Turk. For those with information on the Oct. 1 fire, contact NPD at 907-443-5262 and ask for Corporal Martino. To leave anonymous tips on either cases, call the NPD Crimeline at 907-443-8509.
