“The Nome Berry Festival, an eagerly awaited annual tradition that celebrates the berrypicking season, took place on August 19th. This year’s event featured over 50 talented vendors, showcasing a delightful array of blueberry-themed artwork, mouthwatering baked goods and more. From captivating dance performances to exquisite handcrafted jewelry, there was something for every visitor to enjoy. Festival-goers indulged in a scrumptious assortment of berry-based desserts, including pies, jellies, and the famous ‘Blueberry Delight’ – a delectable layered treat.
The M.S. Roald Amundsen, docking in Nome, added to the festivities, bringing over 300 guests and marking the fifth ship to visit Nome this year. The festival coincided with the cruise ship’s arrival, highlighting Nome’s unique cultural charm.
What makes the Nome Berry Festival more special is its dedication to supporting local talent. Scholarships are awarded to vendors and performers from Norton Sound communities, allowing them to shine on the festival’s stage.
