Nome-Beltz boys advance to semi-finals at state basketball tourney

The No. 2-seed Nome-Beltz boys bested No. 7-seed Barrow on March 22 in the first round of the Class 3A State Basketball Tournament in Anchorage. With the win, the Nanooks — who are the defending 3A state champions — advanced to the semi-finals Thursday to face No-3 seed Houston.

The semi-final game is set for 7:45 p.m. on Thursday.

All games are being played at the Alaska Airlines Center on the University of Alaska Anchorage campus.

Jade Greene finished Wednesday with 24 points, Finn Gregg had 18 points, Richard Cross put up 16 points, Orson Hoogendorn added 4 points, and Peyton Weyiouanna scored 3 points.

Cross scored four three-pointers in the game.

Also, in Wednesday’s 3A action, the Mt. Edgecumbe boys defeated Kenai Central 43-37. Mt. Edgecumbe will now face top-ranked Grace Christian on Thursday, March 23 at 6:15 p.m.
