Multi-Agency Officers Seize Meth En-Route to Nome, Second Bust in Two Weeks

Law enforcement officers seized over $64,000 worth of methamphetamine and marijuana bud from a Nome man at the Ted Stevens Airport on Monday.

According to a dispatch from the Department of Public Safety (DPS), investigators apprehended 59 year-old Robert Cahoon of Nome with 54.2 grams of methamphetamine and approximately one pound of marijuana bud. Cahoon was attempting to travel from Anchorage to Nome.

DPS reports that the discovery is part of a continued investigation into the sale of methamphetamine and heroin in Nome. That’s a multi-agency effort conducted by the Nome Office of the Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team, the Anchorage Airport Interdiction Task Force, and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force.

The estimated street value of meth in Nome is $100-$120 per dose of approximately one-tenth of a gram. That means Cahoon had $54,200 worth of methamphetamine on him at the time of arrest. The estimated street value of the marijuana bud on Cahoon is about $11,315 at $25 per gram. Those estimates are from the Department of Public Safety.

Cahoon is currently being held in Anchorage without bail on charges of misconduct involving controlled substances in the 3rd and 4th degrees.
