The Nome Common Council turns its focus to transportation tonight, during their regular meeting, as they discuss transportation development plans, vehicle purchases, and improvements to Bering Street.
The Council will be voting on a resolution to support the prioritized strategies of the Nome Coordinated Transportation Plan under the Alaska Department of Transportation (DOT). Among the needs identified in that plan were more wheelchair accessible public transportation, a new XYZ transport van, and transportation options for weekends.
The meeting agenda contains a letter from the DOT regarding work on the area between Front Street and Greg Kruschek Avenue. That project would allegedly improve traffic flow, water drainage, and pedestrian safety.
Nome’s City Council will also vote to purchase a new Ford Expedition for the Police Department.
Before tonight’s regular meeting, the Council will convene for a 5:30 pm work session to discuss taxation and revenue. Their regular meeting begins at 7pm in Council Chambers at City Hall.
