The majority of Yukon Quest mushers on the 1,000 mile trail have made their way out of Pelly Crossing, currently making the trek to the next stop: Dawson City.
Officially, the leaderboard has not changed from this morning: Allen Moore holds first position, having checked out of Pelly Crossing on Sunday night at 9:37 PST with 14 dogs. Hans Gatt, currently in second after leading the pack all day yesterday, checked out of Pelly Crossing a minute before Brent Sass last night, just around an hour and a half after Moore.
Two of the race’s few female mushers officially hold positions four and five: Paige Drobny and Michelle Phillips, respectively.
The next stop is Dawson City, just about 200 miles from Pelly Crossing. Race officials were unavailable for comment at the time of this update (12:00pm AKST), but to reiterate from this morning: more snow is expected in Dawson City, and few obstacles.
Kaktovik rookie Martin Reitan has finished up resting since this morning’s KNOM race updates, checking out of Pelly Crossing at 9:45am PST. He’s in 16th position, according to the leaderboard.
Tune into KNOM at 5pm — on 780 AM, 96.1 FM — for the next detailed Yukon Quest race update.
