Over the weekend, Nome-Beltz High School earned top finishes at the Bethel Scramble. JJ Marble, Caleb Evatt, and Starr Erikson all took home first place for their weight classes.
JJ Marble earned his first-place win for the 125 weight class by going head-to-head with Jacob Andrew of New Stuyahok, winning by fall and earning 24 points. The 130 weight class saw Caleb Evatt as its winner, who won by major decision over Bethel’s Nelson Evans. Evatt secured 29 team points. Starr Erikson conquered her 119 weight class, facing Cate Gomez of Dillingham in the 1st place match and winning by fall with 24 team points.
Also taking home notable wins at second place for their weight classes were Liam Hukill in the 119 weight class, Elden Cross in the 152, Nate Cushman in the 171, and Chase Marvin in the 215. Benjamin Cross secured 3rd place for his 152 weight class, Paris Hebel and Owen Hebel came in at 4th for 112 and 171 respectively, and both David Miller and Stephan Anderson scored 7th place for their weight classes.
As for Nome girls, in addition to Erikson’s first place win, Katie Smith snagged 4th place for the 119 weight class. Taking home 5th place for 145 was Georgia Ustaszewski.
Nome Beltz’s only home meet of the season will take place this weekend, Friday the 19th and Saturday the 20th.
