Approximately 15 homes in Unalakleet’s Hillside subdivision are currently without power due to an underground line break.

According to Unalakleet’s Valley Electric Cooperative (UVEC) general manager Reese Huhta, around 9:45 Friday morning, the Cooperative became aware of a break at the wind farm. Technicians attempted to perform a bypass on the line, which was unsuccessful.

UVEC had a line technician flown in from Golovin to conduct a temporary repair. They are hoping to have power restored this evening.

Huhta says the cause of the outage will likely not be known until further excavation can be done. A full excavation is expected to be done tomorrow in order to permanently repair the line.
