Troopers Searching for Suspect in Stebbins Animal Cruelty Case

An arrest warrant has been issued in a case of animal cruelty in the community of Stebbins.

Alaska State Troopers received a report of animal abuse on March 19th at a home in Stebbins. After investigation, troopers identified 30-year-old Vincent Matthias as a suspect. Matthias allegedly struck a small dog “multiple times” using a hammer.

The Nome Grand Jury indicted Matthias on March 29th. A warrant for his arrest was issued on one count of animal cruelty with bail set at $10,000. Alcohol may have been a factor in last month’s incident.

Troopers are seeking details on Matthias’ current whereabouts. He is believed to be in the Stebbins/St. Michael area. Anyone with information is asked to contact state troopers at 907-624-3073.
