Nome’s own port director is set to testify before the U.S. Senate on Thursday. Joy Baker is one of six witnesses from Alaska invited to Washington, D.C., by the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.
She’ll speak at a hearing about infrastructure improvements in Alaska, and how those might create jobs and reduce the cost of living. Baker says her testimony will focus on “the imperative for Arctic maritime infrastructure in Nome and the region.”
Other witnesses attending the hearing include the deputy mayor of Sitka, the executive director of the Alaska Oil and Gas Association, and the business manager of King Cove Native Corporation. The hearing will begin with remarks from Senator Lisa Murkowski at 2:30 pm Eastern Time on Thursday, March 30th.
