A man is in custody after the death of a snowmachine passenger near the community of Akiachak Wednesday morning, March 8th.
33-year-old William Peter of Akiak was driving on the Gweek River trail west of Akiachak with one passenger, 30-year-old Alfreda Evan of Akiak, when she fell off the sled.
Alaska State Troopers received notice at 8:47 AM Wednesday that Evan had died from her injuries. Troopers say an on-scene investigation identified alcohol as a factor in the case.
Charges of DUI and Criminally Negligent Homicide have been forwarded to the Bethel District Attorney’s Office.
