Twenty-seven teams will compete in the 2017 Kuskokwim 300 sled-dog race. Last year’s champion, Pete Kaiser of Bethel, will be back again, with fans calling for a “re-Pete” performance to clinch a third title. Kaiser also won the race in 2015 – the first Bethel musher to win after a 29-year drought.
For the 2017 race, western Alaska mushers Michael Williams, Sr., and Michael Williams, Jr., of Akiak, Richie Diehl and Isaac Underwood of Aniak, and Bethel’s Victoria Hardwick are on the roster.
Nine-time K300 winner Jeff King will be back alongside 2011 champion Paul Gebhart, 1995 champ Ramey Smyth, and a hefty list of veteran mushers.
The race from Bethel to Aniak and back starts at 6:30pm on January 20th.
