Alaska Democrats will convene on Saturday to caucus for their party’s presidential nominee. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders are vying for the state’s 20 delegates.
Going into Saturday’s caucus, Clinton leads with 1,690 delegates. Sanders trails with 946 delegates. A candidate needs 2,383 delegates to win the nomination.
Alaska is one of ten states nationwide that hold caucuses in the primary elections. Unlike casting a private ballot in the primary elections, caucusing involves an open show of support for a candidate. Voters will either raise their hands or congregate in a corner of the room for a certain candidate.
Only registered Democrats, or voters who sign up as Democrats at the caucus site, can take part in tomorrow’s events. Nome Democrats will caucus tomorrow at the Polar Café starting at 10 am.
