The Sisters Berington, Tackling Another Iditarod Together

Anna and Kristy Berington have been mushing in Alaska for more than a decade.

At the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race restart in Willow, the twin sister duo shared what they had in mind for the 2016 race: a race that, like in prior years, they anticipate mushing together. Iditarod 2016 is notable for its large share of female mushers, but both Beringtons say that gender doesn’t make much of a difference — either for the mushers or the sled dogs themselves.

When the conversation began, Kristy was changing out the runner plastic on her sled in anticipation of rough trail through the first part of the race, including Dalzell Gorge.
