Mountain Village Man Cited for ‘Waste of Salmon’

A Mountain Village man has been cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers for “waste of salmon,” according to a State Trooper dispatch.

On June 22, troopers discovered an abandoned 60-foot, 4-inch mesh gillnet on the Yukon River near Mountain Village. The net contained 8 Chinook salmon, 2 chum and 1 sockeye salmon, as well as 42 other fish of various species. Troopers report that the salmon and other fish were rotten and mushy to the touch, making them unfit for human consumption.

Alexander Beans, 24, of Mountain Village was found to be the owner of the subsistence net. Troopers cited Beans for “waste of salmon” and a court date is set for July 14 at the St. Mary’s District Court.
