Lead mushers arrived at the finish of the Kobuk 440 sled dog race in Kotzebue early Easter morning.
Cim Smyth beat out defending champion Jeff King for the top spot, while Kotzebue’s John Baker took third. Race rookie Kristin Bacon finished fourth, with a full team of twelve dogs.
Ken Anderson and Tim Pappas took fifth and sixth place respectively. Hugh Neff finished seventh. He was followed by Kotzebue locals Andrew Brown, Jim Bourquin and Paul Hanson. Dempsey Woods, Sr. was the race’s official red lantern finisher, arriving in Kotzebue on Monday afternoon.
