Video Web Extra: Lance and Jason Mackey Talk Iditarod 2015

Lance and Jason Mackey had an unforgettable Iditarod. Here in an exclusive interview with KNOM, they talk about dog deaths, rescuing another musher’s team, and running together to Nome.

What happened on the ice between Shaktoolik and Koyuk? At some point along the trail, musher Scott Janssen scratched and was taken by snowmachine to the checkpoint. Hear from Lance what was going through his mind when he came upon a dog team some ways off the trail and miles from the checkpoint, seemingly in the middle of nowhere, without a musher at the helm.

Running in tandem for much of the 2015 Iditarod, from Tanana to Nome, brothers Lance and Jason Mackey had ran a truly unique Last Great Race. But was the Iditarod truly Lance’s last 1,000-mile race? Watch both brothers answer that question.

It’s rare for a musher to lose a dog in the Iditarod, but this year Lance lost two in one race. Not enough rest? Or was the four-time champion’s own health the issue? Watch his answer, and Jason’s own take, on losing two dogs in this race.
