9th & 10th, Ken Anderson & Nicolas Petit

Finishing Iditarod 2015 in 9th place, Ken Anderson was greeted by his wife and son under the burled arch Wednesday night.

Race officials logged Ken’s time on the trail at 9 days 10 hours 38 minutes and 54 seconds. Once his snow hook was set, Ken Anderson offered his dogs a well-deserved snack of frozen hot dogs.

Looking ahead and wanting to better his race, Anderson says he needs to learn his team’s strengths a little more. “This team, I didn’t quite know exactly what their strengths were.” In hindsight, Anderson says his team was more steady than fast, and if he had known that upfront, he would have changed his running / resting strategy for the race.

Rumor has it that Nicolas Petit and Wade Marrs chatted ahead of time about battling for the fastest time from Safety to Nome.

Petit certainly made a run for it, completing the stretch in just 2 hours and 31 minutes, taking the Nome crowd and checkers by surprise. KNOM’s Francesca Fenzi and David Dodman greeted Petit under the arch, offering an un-official time, while checkers and fans made their way to the finish.

Petit finished strong for Iditarod 2015 in 9 days 11 hours 19 minutes and 20 seconds, rounding out the top 10 finishers. The Girdwood musher ran this year’s race with a group of yearlings, and he was very pleased at their performance. Dropping just two dogs early in the race, Petit finished with a string of 14 dogs, the largest team to cross the finish so far in Iditarod 43.
