Sounding Board: Storm & Emergency Preparedness

Thank you to our listeners who shared their thoughts with phone calls and emails.

We had calls from Ken in Elim, who shared his concerns about weather emergencies in communities already susceptible to erosion; Mina in Nome, who shared her concerns about banking service during an emergency, and emphasized the importance of keeping non-perishable food on hand.

We also heard from Larry in Emmonak, who called with questions about state and federal emergency services and disaster insurance; Ted in Stebbins, who expressed concern about weather impacts on his reindeer herd; and Bee in Nome, who reiterated a need for individual preparedness.

And a special thanks to our studio guests, Tom Vaden and Jim West, Jr. for answering your questions on the air!

Missed the show? You can listen to the full episode above and tune in next Thursday, December 18 at 10 a.m. for another Sounding Board on KNOM.

Get Ready. On this week’s Sounding Board, we’re talking about what we can do to better prepare for storms and emergencies.

We’ll be joined in the studio by guest Tom Vaden, a member of Nome’s Emergency Planning Commission, who will be ready to answer any questions you may have.

We want to hear from you.

  • What do you do to prepare for storms and emergencies?
  • What tips would you give other people to be better prepared?
  • What was the worst storm your community experienced and what did you learn from the recovery?
  • What questions do you have about how to better ready yourself for a storm?

Sounding Board is your call-in show, so join us Thursday, December 11th at 10 a.m. to share your thoughts, questions or concerns about emergency preparedness. Have something to share right now? Fill out the form below, email us at talk@knom.org or tweet us @knom.
