A Nome woman cited by wildlife officials for killing a muskox near Icy View will not face criminal charges.
Local resident Diana Adams was cited last week by Alaska wildlife troopers for taking a muskox out of season on July 17. Wildlife trooper Mike Cresswell said Thursday the summons has now been changed to a written warning.
Adams declined to comment on the matter Thursday.
The citation came just days before another muskox attack at a dog lot off Little Creek Road that Adams shares with Mitch Erickson. Erickson’s dog Onslo was fatally gored and the attacking muskox destroyed a chain-link fence and gate.
It was the latest in what’s proven to be a summer of run-ins with muskox living close to city limits. The animals have damaged property, injured and killed pets, and threatened residents.
Adams’ attorney Erin Lillie said the warning means Adams won’t face charges for the muskox kill and is likely the end of the case.
